Description:
Skin disorders in their various forms are amongst the most common diseases suffered by mankind, accounting for no less than 1 in 5 of all visits to outpatient departments in the Western world. Despite this prevalence and the resources put into this field, many patients are dissatisfied with the conventional treatments available to them, and look elsewhere for solutions. Chinese herbal medicine has a very real and enduring answer for a significant number of sufferers of many skin diseases. It can induce spectacular and lasting changes in a whole range of intractable conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and acne, and yet due to a lack of specialist training and clinical experience, numerous practitioners of Chinese medicine fail to achieve optimal results that are well within their grasp.
Hundreds of slides from Mazin’s own practice will be utilized to illustrate in great detail all the steps required to accurately make a diagnosis and to apply the principles of differentiation of pattern types according to Chinese medicine. Numerous case examples with before and after slides will also be presented and will act as the basis of detailed discussions on the specifics of treatment. Clear and practical instructions will enable practitioners to adapt effective formulae to the vagaries of clinical reality and allow them to achieve success.
Understanding lesions The course will begin with an in-depth description of all primary and secondary lesions that may manifest on the skin (such as papules, pustules, lichenification, atrophy, scaling etc), and their meaning and significance according to Chinese medicine. Time will be devoted to the details of examination of the skin including significance of morphology, distribution symmetry etc.
Psoriasis Psoriasis is one of the most common and most stubborn diseases of the skin, affecting as many as 2% of the population. With a correct approach to treatment up to 65% of cases can be substantially helped with Chinese medicine.
In addition to the most common variant, plaque psoriasis, other forms of psoriasis such as guttate, pustular and erythrodermic psoriasis will also be considered. Acne Without doubt the most common and most easily recognized of all skin disorders, acne affects almost everyone in their adolescent years. Not only the bane of teenagers however, acne affects many in their 20's and 30's and frequently has a significant impact on self image. With the correct differentiation and treatment the vast majority of sufferers can be helped using Chinese medicine.
Rosacea Also known as acne-rosacea. A frequently seen disorder in those in their 30’s and 40’s, characterized by eruptions of acne like pustules, telangiectasia and erythema across the face and nose with frequent bouts of flushing.
Pompholyx Eczema Also known as dyshidrotic eczema. A remarkably persistent and debilitating eczema of the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. A very satisfying disease to treat because of the excellent results that can be achieved using Chinese medicine.
